Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as Tapping) is a relatively new therapeutic approach and was developed in the USA in the 1990’s and is a form of counselling or psychological therapy that has developed from a combination of therapies, including acupuncture, kinesiology and psychology.
The therapy uses tapping techniques, on the same meridian lines used in traditional acupuncture and, like acupuncture, it aims to restore balance to the body by working on the energy system (meridians). The tapping is done to meridian points mainly on the head and hands at the same time as focusing on the issue and voicing positive affirmations. The therapy is intended to move ‘stuck’ emotions and to help to release unwanted thoughts that are from past events and are affecting the present. The technique is useful for dealing with personal problems but can also be used for self-development and creating positive change.
